Throughout their lives, Ysbrand acquires a rather large number of real estate. It is said that he wanted to be able to walk from Blauwhuis to Bolsward on his own land.
It is not clear if this is true, but he was able to. Through inheritances and business deals, he acquires 13 farms (although I count only 12 here).
In Bolsward: Heechhout (1838), Hollanderzet, Half Hichtum (1837) and Half Tjerkwerd II (1826).
In Tjerkwerd: Half Tjerkwerd I (1828) Rijtseterp en Westerhuis (in herited), Senserhuis (1837), Jonkershuizen and Buwalda Stapert.
In Workum: Tichelwerk.
In Nijland: Jongedijk
He is also quite
frugal. There is a story, retold by one of his great grandchildren, where he,
upon leaving the church, is given some money by someone who thinks he is a
beggar, judging from the state of his clothes. It seems he replied “Oh but it is not quite that bad yet.”
But
he did have a photograph taken from him and his wife. They both die in 1873, so
the photos are from before that time.

Sijmonsma both die in 1873, and their grave is one of the first in the

is still in the church yard in Blauwhuis, one of the oldest graves present.
By that time 4 of their children have
already died.
This story continues with their youngest son, Geale Ysbrands Galama (known as Michiel Galama).
